STEPS is engaging with stakeholders at national and international level
Civil society organisations (CSOs) are groups that undertake non-commercial and non-governmental activities in the public interest. They may be campaigning, for example environmentalist groups, provide services, for example mental health groups, or bring together people with special interests, for example professional organisations.
Public-health researchers work in universities, in public-sector institutes or as consultants. Compared with other areas of medicine, however, research undertaken in the pharmaceutical industry only rarely contributes to public health.
Public-health research is non-commercial, and support is vital from national ministries of science and education and ministries of health, as well as other international organisations including country donors, the European Union and the World Health Organisation.
And the beneficiaries of public health research that is put into public health policy and practice will be Europe’s citizens.
